Poi tornerà a casa, dove forse troverà sua madre, rientrata dal lavoro. Lungo il tragitto forse qualcuno le ricorderà che è un peccato che una donna così graziosa come sua madre, ventinove anni, capelli neri e occhi scuri, debba lavare i pavimenti according to mantenere lei e gli altri piccoli Nolan. Qualcun altro magari le parlerà di Johnny, suo padre, il ragazzo più bello e più attaccato alla bottiglia del vicinato, qualcuno infine le sussurrerà mezze parole sull’allegro comportamento di sua zia Sissy con gli uomini.

Francie ascolterà e ogni parola sarà according to lei una pugnalata al cuore, ma troverà, come sempre, l. a. forza according to reagire, poiché lei è una bambina destinata a diventare una donna sensibile e vera, strong point come l’albero che, stretto fra il cemento di Brooklyn, alza rami sempre più alti al cielo.

Biografía del autor

Robertson Davies (1913-1995) murió siendo un escritor mundialmente famoso y uno de los autores canadienses más importantes. Nacido en los angeles región de Ontario, se educó en distintas instituciones de su país y Europa. Tras licenciarse en Literatura en Oxford, trabajó como actor en l. a. outdated Vic Repertory corporation, donde conoció a l. a. que más tarde sería su esposa. En 1940 regresa a Canadá para dedicarse con éxito al periodismo y a escribir comedias; su columna humorística, firmada con el seudónimo de Samuel Marchbanks, tuvo un éxito inmediato y algunas de sus obras de teatro –que él mismo produjo– fueron muy aclamadas. A comienzos de los años cincuenta publica l. a. primera de sus as soon as novelas, organizadas en trilogías, que lo harían mundialmente famoso: l. a. Trilogía Salterton: A merced de l. a. tempestad (1951), Levadura de malicia (1954) y Una mezcla de flaquezas (1958); los angeles Trilogía Deptford: El quinto en discordia (1970), Mantícora (1972) y El mundo de los prodigios (1975); l. a. Trilogía de Cornish: Ángeles rebeldes (1981), Lo que arraiga en el hueso (1985) y La lira de Orfeo (1988); y los angeles inacabada Trilogía de Toronto. En los años sesenta abandonará progresivamente el periodismo y comenzará a enseñar literatura en los angeles Universidad de Toronto, actividad que compaginará con los angeles escritura hasta su jubilación.

Además de novelas, Davies es autor de una treintena de libros entre cuentos, obras de teatro, crítica literaria y recopilaciones de artículos.
